Downgrading new board to 0.9 from 1.1

Hello,

I just got my replacement board in since the ports on my old died. Turns out the new board has grbl 1.1. My machine does not have limit switches and I refuse to get them.

Followed the instructions here to downgrade but have run into a snag. Xloader seems to be frozen mid-process or is taking an immense amount of time to upload the hex file. How long does it normally take? Also, is it “safe” to kill Xloader since it has probably frozen?

Thank you for any help.

The concern is the failed attempt to flash having corrupted not just your firmware, but your bootloader.

My understanding is if you have a spare Arduino you can set it up to use it as a bootloader.

Worst case is if you’ve bricked your controller, let us know at support@carbide3d.com and we’ll see what we can do — should be able to swap out your controller for one with 0.9 on it.

Just curious - but what do you have against the limit switches?

My thought too. Limit switches are a Good Thing.
