What have others done to seal the Base? Been on google several options, epoxy,thinned PVA glue,lacquer, enamel, shellac, etc. It gets humid in my shop in the summer and hot!! I only run the air during the heat of the day
I used a can of Valspar spray spar varnish.

I didn’t seal the base but I sealed my mdf supplemental wasteboard with 50% pva (elmers) glue and water.

I used some leftover polyurethane I had sitting around. Soak the board, wipe it back, sand once dry.

A you can use shellac or make a wiping poly using 1 part each oil based polyurethane, boiled linseed oil, and mineral spirits.
Both are easy to repair.
