Surfacing Supplementary wasteboard

Before I begin surfacing my supplementary wasteboard, I have a couple of questions:

  1. How do I go about checking if it actually needs surfacing? I do not have a dial indicator.

  2. I believe one runs a pocketing operation in Carbide Create to surface. Is this correct?

Many thanks!

  1. find the high point and determine the distance from the low point — best thing to do is put some consistently thick material which will conform to the wasteboard but won’t damage the endmill — check the corners and then the center.

  2. That’s one way. See: Wasteboard Plans with threads and Notes on rapid positions and wasteboard leveling as noted at: https://wiki.shapeoko.com/index.php/Calibration_and_Squaring_the_Machine#Tramming
