V-Carve paths....sloooooow

Hi all -

I’m wondering what else others have done but I’m seeing basic vcarving (my children’s names) moving ULTRA slow.

I’ve changed the plunge rate/feed rate, saved off the gcode (from carbide create), but carbide motion doesn’t seem to care.

The really odd behavior I’m seeing is when it moves from letter to letter, it snaps up quick to the proper height, but then when it’s lowering, it’s moving at this glacial rate (z only).

Any thoughts?

Plunge rate is set separately from feed rate and is usually much lower. Usual guideline is half (softer materials) to one-fourth (harder).

You may find that manually setting the feed and speed rates will allow the machine to move / perform faster — see http://www.precisebits.com/tutorials/calibrating_feeds_n_speeds.htm for a testing methodology.
