Hi everyone, very excited to be a part of the Shapeoko community!
Recently I purchased a used Shapeoko 3 XXL and it came with a Makita router with a 0.25" collet. Does anyone have any recommendations on where to get a 1/8" collet? This is a completely new field for me, so I do want to make sure I select the right one.
I did see the Precision collets sold on the carbide3d website, but didn’t need the extra 0.25" that came with it.
I used https://www.precisebits.com/ for my DeWalt router. I didn’t see Makita listed, so you may have to look up your exact make / model to see if there is compatibility with another brand router.
Post your model number and see if anyone has that model and possibly compatible collets for it.
If you’re using the 1/4" stock collet you want the 1/4" precision collet as a replacement — less runout.
Elaire Corp. makes precision collets for the Makita and other routers and are well-regarded (I have a full set of them save for the recently released 3mm, but use my Carbide 3D collets by preference).
I feel like the answer is no, but another option is to get Carbide ER-11 Compact Router that includes two collets (1/8 and 1/4). I read this router and the Makita are extremely similar, so sounds like that wouldn’t be the best idea.
