3D cutting issue

Just need to clarify. When using an STL image, the height of that STL file and the base height should add up to the material thickness in the settings, correct?

I have a project where that is the case but the cutter begins above the wood surface. Using DeskProto to establish the STL height.

I’m confident my zero height is correct.

Thanks.

Yes, if you wish to use the full thickness of the material and the surface of it, and the ability to cut near the surface will allow for a good result.

I would suggest allowing at least the smallest tool you are using to remove a full chipload thickness from the highest point, and further recommend at least one test cut in a piece of scrap (glue it up if need be).

Thanks Will. Discovered that the file I was printing had a raised uncut area for the first couple of passes. Then it started doing what was expected. Test done on Padauk.
