3d model max file size

Does anybody know what the max file size is for importing a 3d model? I have 5 files that are between 951521KB and 1369067KB and they just won’t load into Carbide Create Pro. I can load a file that is 912339KB and it takes about 10 seconds to load in. I bought these files and the creator says there should be no problem with them. Apparently they are able to load up in other software with no problem.

Try opening them in a 3rd party tool such as Microsoft’s 3D Builder App?

It has the nice facility of identifying and repairing errors in the file.

If you’re still having trouble, upload the file to a file sharing site and send the link to support@carbide3d.com and we will look into this with you.

I wish I could share the file but I’m not suppose to. I can use it but can’t share it. I can create a finished carved model and do whatever with it but just can’t share the file. I tried using the 3d builder app but no luck there. I’ll keep playing with it but no luck yet.

Note that ASCII format STLs are not supported — resave on binary?

I was able to open the file in Blender but I’ve never worked with that software. I was able to rotate it around, look at it and then I saved the file under a ‘test’ name as a stl file. File size was about the same. I tried opening it in the latest version of Carbide Create Pro as a model and nothing comes up.

You should be able to decimate (reduce the triangle count) in Blender. Reduce it as much as you can without sacrificing detail.

I was looking through the manual for Blender and they only save the exported stl files as ascII formats. I’ll do some more playing around with the file to see if I can decimate it and make sure it’s in binary format. Should be easy enough.

Wow! You guys amaze me! I went into Blender and loaded up the STL and then Decimated the file down to .75%. Then I saved it (exported it) as a new STL file. I loaded it into the model in Carbide Create Pro and “WaLa” there it was in all it’s glory! So there must be a limit to the file size for STL models into Carbide Create Pro. Just gotta keep them under 1 GB guys.
