I am doing a sign with a 3D STL import in the middle. When I try to create the 3D toolpaths, I am not able to select only the STL anymore, i have to select the rectangle arround it. But the rectable goes empty instead of just removing 5 mm or so.
Build a 5mm flat component first that’s bigger than the rectangle pocket, then add your STL to it.
Or just 3D cut around the 3D portion, and clean out the pocket with a 2D path
You can create a vector around the STL by using the “Create Outline Vectors” in V8. (maybe V7 too??). Use a value of 0.0 or 0.001 to get the edge. Then offset that by the radius of the tool to get your boundary for the 3D cut. You can’t select the STL, it just uses whatever model is there. The vector you select for 3D cuts is a boundary.
