I am hopefully picking up a used 5Pro 4x4 in the next week or so. I am planning to order the 5.1 upgrade before putting it in its final location. I am on the fence about the leg kit.
Do those of you that have gotten it like it vs a table?
And what height does that put the bed at? I am short so reaching the middle of the table from the sides may be a challenge if it’s too high.
I’ll let you know soon if I’m in time as my 5.1 and legs should be shipping soon.
I currently have a bench made from a Rockler Rock Steady kit and butcher block style top. It’s bulky. I do plan to reduce the top and use it as an assembly table I can store under my S5Pro.
I can’t speak to the leg kit, but I have one of the other common table arrangements - the Kreg 64" x 64" table. One of my frustrations is that 5 feet by 5 feet seems like it’s just a little bigger than the Shapeoko 4x4, but it takes up 50% more floor space in total. In return, you get a small area that picks up chips and tools and whatever else in front of the Shapeoko and space you don’t use on either side and the back. I’ll be getting the upgrade and legs whenever my wife won’t notice.
Yeah, my father actually maintained a Post Office Box in a small town in-between home and where he worked which he used for catalogs and bills for various hobbies/expenses which he did not want my mother to know about.
Hi,
I have the leg kit on my 5Pro 4x4 they are made very well. They come with mounting hardware for the control box and spindle. So far they are holding up fine. The only tweaks I made was to reposition the holes for the mounts so the spindle controller and control box could be mounted under the table not on the outside, also I will be adding a shelf to the legs I think this will stiffen it up more as of now just a little shaking when running. Other then that I am very pleased that I got them.
My biggest concern would be mobility if I needed to reposition for a tiling job. I guess a set of these would do.
I have something similar on my lathe.
The retractable wheels I use now would require drilling through the legs, but I guess your shelf plan would as well.
As for moving it around casters would be nice, the leveling feet they come with are good if keeping in one spot. The hole for the feet is close to 1/2 inch so you might not have to or just open them up to fit, and as for adding a shelf there are some holes mid point up on the legs (only on one side of each leg) that could be used for mounting a cross brace, I’m sure with some more feed back they will adapt the legs for more configuration for shelf and remounting the control boxes. But like I said over all very steady when milling.
Maybe I should have been clearer. The Kreg table takes up 25 square feet of floor space. The Shapeoko itself takes up 16 square feet of floor space. 25/16 is about 1.5, so it takes up 50% more floor space. You could argue that I’m exaggerating, but math don’t lie and it really does feel much bigger on the table than by itself.
I got a message saying it has shipped but the UPS page only shows a “label being created” that was 8 Dec 25. Getting a little frustrating…I have the machine assembled on adjustable saw horses so I can just put legs on and then lower to garage floor. I’m gonna look into those retractable casters as well.
I have the Kreg 64 square table for my 5 Pro. Yes it sucks up some floor space but also provides a wood and do-dads storage shelf underneath as well as tub storage underneath on the floor. I still have the mobility with the Kreg casters so I can reposition as needed. It is height adjustable to a certain extent. It does look like the leg kit would be an easier setup though.
I don’t have any machine enclosure on the Kreg table per se. My shop has an Oneida vac system, which is louder than the 5 pro when running (close anyway) and is quite adequate for dust collection. I prefer 360 degree access to the machine for large setups. I can provide a picture if you like.
