65mm spindle not spinning

I have just purchased an S5pro with the 65mm VFD spindle (latest design, I assume). Everything was working great, until I moved it to another table. Now everything seems to work, except the spindle won’t spin. I have checked all connections and they seem fine. I have no idea how to troubleshoot it.

Did you push on the button on the front of the VFD? If that is not engaged, the spindle will not work.

I tried it both ways, with the button pushed in (red light), and the button popped out (no light). No spin either way. Should I see anything in the display window? Mine is blank.

Yes, there should be blinking numbers, usually ‘0.0’, when it is on. You may have a bad VFD. I would recommend contacting support. Others might chime in with other things to check.

Thank you for your input.

Should I open the VFD and look for a blown fuse?

I am relatively new also and do not know the answer to that one. Just one other thought, have you confirmed you have electricity to the plug you are using? Been there, so just thinking of some of the simple things to check, in case a breaker is thrown.

Please do not open up any sealed electronics unless directed to by support.

Things to check:

  • circuit working
  • everything plugged in and connected properly
  • all switches set to on/enable
  • Carbide Motion configured for VFD in Setup Wizard

if all the above is the case and things still aren’t working, please check in w/ support@carbide3d.com

I had a similar situation once where I accidentally pulled the power cord loose from the VFD. It looked as if it was plugged in but when I put my hands on it I could push it in quite a bit more.

The VFD can NOT be on a GFI circuit. I put a GFI after the plug for the VFD.
