I would like to try some end mills from COLEX. They have a 6mm shank, where can I purchase a ER-16 collet to fit this size endmill?
Cheers!

Amazon sells them $10
Thanks, I thought the ER-16 collet was universal, I just didn’t want to assume.
Note that the ER-16 spindle has a specific thread requirement (for the collet nut).
ER collets have a clamp range. Most 1/4" collets will clamp a 6mm shaft.
From the quick search I found ER16 1/4" clamp range is +0 / -1mm, so about 5.35 to 6.35 mm.
Just personal note, in my experience the very cheap import collets may not have this range.
I’ve had to really crank down on a 1/4” collet to get it to grab a 6mm precision rod and it barely held it. I ended up having to coat the rod in super glue to get the job done (I really don’t recommend this but if you gotta get something done, you do what you gotta do
)
I’ve since purchased an on size 6mm collet but maybe I’ll get a good 1/4” collet to replace my cheap import and give it another shot ![]()
There has been a bit of discussion on sourcing here:
and as I’ve noted, when I need various sizes of ER-11 collets, I bought them from Maritool because they had a solid reputation and their site was easy to navigate.
Yeah I’ll second maritool, not only are their collets nice but the nuts are great. Mine were laser marked with all the necessary info which is convenient when you’ve got a bunch (definitely not rolling around loose in a drawer
)
Whatever steel and treatment they use for their nuts feels notably different than anything I’ve bought before. Hard as heck and while all of the edges are deburred well, you can tell they would just shred you if they weren’t.
If you find yourself on the site, maybe pick up a 13oz soft face deadblow as well. Made in the USA and easy to spot anywhere in the shop given its neon green coloring
(I love mine and it’s held up well so far)
