Advanced V-Carve depth issues

Hi everyone. I ran a series of cuts yesterday on the same sign. I ran the job in a total of 3 files so I could take breaks. Each file was using an advanced v carve using the exact same settings and the exact same bits. Each of the cuts was set to a max depth of .1

The first cut (top of the sign) ran exactly as expected cutting to the max depth I had set and the lettering snd details look great. The second and third cuts went much deeper than the max depth that I set and cause a bunch of tear out.

Can someone let me know what I’m doing wrong here?

How are you doing the tool change?

It’s through advanced v-carve so it’s automatic using the bit setter.

First tool is always loaded and zero’ d for that specific tool and then when it’s ready to change I change the bit and it goes to the bit setter

If you test the bit change, is it consistent?

Try this:

  • power up and initialize the machine
  • set zero at a point on your machine which you can easily reference (say clamping something stable to the machine which is not going to damage an endmill)
  • use the interface to change the tool
  • go back to where zero was using the Rapid Position commands Current XY, and Z+6mm — can you jog down 6mm to arrive at the zero point?

I’ll try it but it’s the pocketing bit that’s going too deep which is the bit it was zero’d with. So this is before the bit change even happens. Max depth is set at .1

I did double check the zeroing after the second cut and it was accurate. I rezero’d for the 3rd cut again with the same pocketing bit and same max depth and got a completely different cut.

Please prepare a video which shows this difficulty and send it in to support@carbide3d.com
