Another tool database question

ok so I have set up a dedicated computer for my machine. it runs windows,
I have create pro on my apple laptop. I wanted to copy some of my Amana tools to the windows computer. I have found the files on my laptop, and saved them to a flash drive. when I went to find the same file location on the windows computer I couldn’t find it. can anyone help me find the correct place to put those files?

*side note I won’t have access to this machine and computer till next Thursday (it belongs to a robotics team I mentor) so I may not have answers to follow up questions on the windows side.

We’ve talked about a way to save your tools to the cloud, but we’ve generally been anti-cloud for our software.

Is that something that people want?

im not a big fan of cloud stuff generally. I just want to be able to copy a file from my program files on one computer to another. or import databases like you could with vetric.

Got it. Copying the CSV files from the data directory is the reliable way to do that. No cloud required.

Not really. No benefit to saving .csv files.

think you could explain a little more?

where do I put them on the windows computer?
there seem to be different default files on windows from my MacBook.

Open the About dialog, then click the Open Data Directory button. (I forget the name of the tools subdirectory, but you’ll see it)

That’s all of the CC data; we don’t use the registry or other hidden locations.

is that same on windows? I already have it copied off of my MacBook and was having trouble finding where to put it on the windows computer

Yep- drop it in the same place on Windows. You might have to create the subdirectory, I don’t recall if we create it by default. @WillAdams has a better memory than me.

that may be why I couldn’t find it. if I have to create it, it doesn’t exist yet.

ill take a look when I get back to that machine. thanks!

My copy of Carbide Create on my Mac has the (empty) folder:

/Users/williamadams/Library/Preferences/Carbide 3D/Carbide Create/tools

so I’m pretty sure it was created by default by at least one version — it might be that I made a user tool library (causing the folder to be created), then deleted it and the folder persisted.

Best thing to do is to make a user tool library with at least one tool — that will ensure that the folder is created with the correct permissions.

this worked. I guess I thought I would be able to find it in my file browser, without going through the “about” stuff.

I should mention for anyone who finds this later, I had to close carbide create and reopen it for my tools to show up when making tool paths.

Thanks for the help!

I installed CC815 on my Macbook Air tonight and there is no “About” option under the Help menu so I cant get to the tool .csv file. I can open the tool database under Edit/Show Tool Database.
Any suggestions?

On a Mac, the About APP menu is under the Application menu, so it would be Carbide Create | About Carbide Create
