Anyone using the tiling feature for shapeoko 5?

I have an upcoming project where I’ll need to Vcarve some lettering into a 2.5’ x 9’ long High Density Urethane. Before I drop the $ for the upgrade to my XXL, I’m hoping someone will dig into if the Shapeoko 5 can really do tiling easily…especially on V Carved lettering

many, many thanks in advance.

I’ve used the tiling on my SO5Pro a couple of times. Works very well. I can’t testify to v carving letters, but I’m sure there would be no problem doing that.

Appreciate the quick response. Good to hear. I just need to find a video on it where it goes into detail.
Maybe its a simple feature. I just don’t know yet. Thanks

It is so simple the Help button takes one to:

I successfully used it to cut a table top out of plywood that was about 6ft long. I made a test cut where it just “cut air” on the first cut after I moved the stock to make sure things at least looked close.

Don’t be afraid of tiling. I was overthinking it at first. Once I got into it things were much easier than I feared.

Try it with Mdf or plywood or even PVC trim boards before using more expensive material. Making sure that you hold the board flat when gravity is pulling on the end overhanging the machine is the biggest challenge. I added a fence on the left side for the piece to slide against and put some threaded inserts in there so that I could have clamps pushing down.
