I have a job where my 1/8" end mill just doesn’t fit into certain areas. I started fixing this by hand and realized it’s going to either take too long or change my end project.
Is there a way to have software do this automatically?
I can change the bit to 1/16" but then my depth I can cut and time both suffer.
Rest machining is only going to solve half the problem. I attached the file I’m working with, I wanted to use a 1/8" end mill to do the entire job.
This isn’t possible and I have to switch to an 1/16" end mill to finish. My stock is .5" and the only 1/16" end mill I have has a doc of .118" So my solution was to open up the vectors to fit my .125" tool.
I want this cut through so not v-carved.
Back to my original question, is there a software that will identify which areas won’t machine with a certain diameter tool?
Thanks Will, Very close with the 1/8" tool. I was showing that it wouldn’t cut most of the features.
A question, using the 1/4" tool in the preview it shows cutting all the way through which destroys the feature, even if you tell the program not to cut all the way using a tool twice the diameter alters the features I’m trying to retain. Is there something I’m not seeing to the advantage here in rest machining with the larger tool? BTW, the area at the top isn’t cut all out, only the profile of the cross.
Thanks,
Pete
Sorry, I have been playing with that svg for a long time. I was adding offsets to try and make the features larger to fit the 1/8" end mill without ruining the feature.
