Best place to buy DELRIN

Anyone know of a good supplier for small quantities of delrin and different colour HDPE. Preferably based out of Canada.

Per the wiki: https://www.shapeoko.com/wiki/index.php/Vendors#International

ship internationally

Have had no luck finding a plastic supplier in Canada that supplies anything but vast quantities. Ordering McMaster Carr and having it shipped in from the US, but price/selection is not exactly what one would desire.

That said, one can get HDPE cutting boards inexpensively at restaurant supply houses:

https://www.therestaurantstore.com/search/cutting-board

available colours:

  • white
  • red
  • green
  • brown
  • blue
  • yellow
  • purple (in a set)

(I got a black one from Target a while back, used it for my new dust shoe mount)

Have to say I have also been tempted to try and melt/form HDPE from plastic bottles - looks pretty easy but not sure I can achieve the quality and the time/cost ratio is probably not the best.

I worked at a rotomolding plant.
Chop your plastic real fine like powder.
Put it in a baking sheet, pack full!
Bake at 650 to 700 degrees F for 20-30 minutes.
Let cool for 20 minutes.
Viola! Plastic sheet

Missed step 3 - make sure wife is out of the house whilst I attempt this in the oven! Have a bunch of HDPE swarf - once I assemble enough going to give it a try.

I actually made spinning friction weld caps this way, because the company didnt want to buy the injection molded ones, any more.
You can only recycle it a few times.
It gets more brittle every time, without fresh (virgin) plastic.
I forgot!
Very important to use mold release.
We used a silicone mold release that you sprayed with regular spray bottles.
There may be alternatives, like soap, not sure.
