Better Wasteboard

I was struggling with my original MDF slats of my wasteboard staying level with the daily changes of humidity here is South Carolina. A neighbor told me that she switched to using OSB because it’s not affected by humidity like MDF is. So I modified the file to make my slats to fit the shorter OSB dimensions and it seems to be working. After installing, I ran my surfacing bit over them and haven’t noticed any changes so far. Granted they’re not as thick as MDF, but they are about half the price.

MDF must be sealed. I use shellac on new MDF material and after surfacing.

My first go around with the supplied wasteboard, I sealed it with a paste wax. When i resurfaced it again, I used a clear lacquer. The mdf soaks it up like a sponge, and isn’t effected by the alcohol I use in my coolant mist occasionally use when cutting aluminum.
