My bit runner is not triggering after a tool change. I’ve now busted 2 bits and can’t seem to find the issue.
Machine initialized like normal, asked for tool change then did it’s bit setter business and I start the job. Tool change triggers, I swap it out, runs bit setter, but bit runner never turns back on and my bit snaps off as it crashes into my workpiece.
I’ve recently updated to Vcarve Pro 11 but had transferred all of my settings over from 10.5. Shapeoko PP with tool change is active PP. Am I missing a setting on Goode publish?
I assume you’ve just installed the Bitrunner? Do you have a rpm set for each tool in Vcarve Pro? I believe you need a minimum of 1000 rpm in your tool table, for carbide motion to turn on the spindle via Bitrunner.
From the manual:
• An M3 S command of 1000 or greater (1000 is the RPM) automatically turns the router on. M3 S2800 is an example M3 S command. Alternately, you might see commands written like this: M3S2800.
• An M5 command turns the router off.
• An M6 command indicates a tool change.
This is very possible, Steve! I’ve been using the bit runner for a couple years now. First it’s been an issue. My tool database got mangled in the transfer, so I had only numbered the tools for this specific job.
Searching through the gcode, I’m not seeing the M codes I would expect. I’ll post it here for you guys to puruse! Thanks so much for the help.
The only thing I did change in Vcarve, was to change the “Machine” back to Shapeoko 3 XXL and associate the TC PP to it in the dialog. bitRunner_Test_machineSet.zip (18.9 KB)
Yep, that’s not right. A single M3 at the beginning, no M5 before toolchange, and no M3 after tool change, that’s not suitable. I don’t have VCarve v11 so I can’t comment on where their Shapeoko PP comes from/looks like, but it’s strange that it would produce such gcode now. Are you positive you are not unintentionnally selecting another PP?
I’m using the same one as before, that I found here in the forum. I still have 10.5 installed on my laptop hooked to the machine. I’ll export from that and see if it’s possibly v11 of Vcarve causing issue
After doing some digging, I’ve found that it’s something with using a PP out of the “MyPostP” folder in the app data folder. I uninstalled Vcarve Pro v11 and reinstalled. It started fine and I went about trying to get things set back up after dumping my backups back in the above mentioned folder. After doing that, Vcarve won’t even launch. It shows a process running, but the app never actually loads. If i clear the MyPostP folder, Vcarve launches again. Definitely something is broken with the latest Vcarve update.
Ok, finally got it! It seems Vectric now has an official PP for ATC in Carbide Motion. I ran their machine configuration and it auto added the correct tool change PP and is now producing the correct gcode commands.
So, the beleif is that vectric has in thier pp inventory selection for the carbide shapeoko 3, XL; and if chosen ( carbide 3d ) and not the default PP , the program it will pause for tool changes??, i am running ver 11 of vectric vcarve 11
@Vustadumas I’m catching up on this thread. Are you saying that the post processor I have on GitHub does not work?
Can anyone else with v11 confirm? I’m still rocking 9 point something.
@neilferreri It seems to be any PP in that folder. Doesn’t seem to be related to yours specifically. In my case at least, I have to use what they offer.
@neilferreri If I add any of these posts to the myPostP folder, Vcarve does not start. I tried adding a few of their listed posts from the PostP folder and Vcarve starts without issue. If I add your posts to the PostP folder, I never see them. I’m at a loss to say for sure what the issue may be, but it’s definitely new to me. My Vcarve version is their latest v11.009
These are the github posts i’ve been using for ages without any issues @neilferreri
