Bit Setter Cap Chewed up

“Edit” Bit Setter

So, Head-up A** mistake

Surfacing my waste board, I allowed the surfacing bit to crawl over the Bit Setter where it wiped out the cap.

My question is??? what is the thickness of the cap so that I might make another to glue on. I know it is not very thick, not willing to place too thick of a piece of metal on it to mess up my zero

Hi @ZMan,

Actually the cap thickness does not matter. The BitSetter works by measuring tool length differences, not absolute length. So the cap thickness will be removed from the equation anyway. Some folks have piled up 10 small magnets on top of the bitsetter button (for another purpose) and it worked just fine (as it should)

If you want to get a replacement cap you can contact support@carbide3d.com to see if they can get you one (but again, anything you stick on that bitsetter button will work, as long as it is reasonably flat, and does not move around once installed)

Thank you Sir.

I was concerned about bit length measurements. I have some magnets I can use in place of the cap.
