Who else has nearly destroyed their BitSetter with a wasteboard surfacing operation?! Or am I the only fool?
Fortunately I was able to hit pause just before the crash!
Now time to move the 3 wasteboards (between t-tracks) back an inch before trying to resurface again…
Edit: Just about did it again!! Moved boards back 1”, zeroed and new front edge, but waste-board file was for full depth of travel. Lost steps on next to last y travel and it came forward and took a 1” bite instead of 1/2”. But didn’t think much of it. On second bump, it came forward and nearly ate it again! Be careful out there!
Yup, been there. I now remove the BitSetter for resurfacing, then reinstall it afterwards (I marked its position on the rail with a black marker to put it back right where it was, and not have to change its location in CM)
Well, in my setup the bottom of the bitsetter is very close to the table the machine is installed on, so it could not go lower (unless it was redesigned to be much shorter). Also, depending on the Z axis one may not be able to plunge below the level of the front steel plate anyway.
When I installed my Bitsetter I marked with a silver permanent marker down the front frame and when I remove it to surface I can just put it back. I have to just check but taking it off 3 times it has always went back perfectly. To surface I remove it because my fly bit might not hit the Bitsetter so I disable it in the configuration and then re-enable it after the flattening is done. I just use the old paper method to zero the bit.
