BitZero accuracy

Sometimes I need to remove a project from my shapeoko 4 so I can do another one then put the first one back. Will the BitZero be accurate for setting the XYZ to zero?

I’m using drill holes through the project into the waste board and using pins so I can reposition the project exactly where it was for the first cut. Will the BitZero be accurate enough to continue the project?

It depends.

What sort of continuation you are planning on?

If a 3D roughing toolpath was finished and you then re-position/re-zero to run a 3D Finishing toolpath, so long as any error is less than half of the stock to leave and the part is square, it should be fine.

If you’re planning on machining a countersink, then re-positioning/re-zeroing and drilling holes in the center of the countersink, that may not work out well since the human eye is very good at seeing that something is off-center.

Mostly making cuts after doing an epoxy pour after initial pocket cuts. Freeing up the machine by removing the job to do the pour is what I’m looking to do.

What is the narrowest detail which needs to have a cut made relative to it?

I’m looking for really close tolerances. No more than a tenth of a millimeter.
