Is there a replacement for the pin used in the bitzero? I lost the quarter inch one somehow. Can I just use a 1/4 steel pin from someplace like McMaster Carr?

Yes, any 1/4" (EDIT: metal/conductive) rod will do — precision ground drill stock is a good source.
I believe you meant any conductive 1/4" rod will do
