Bitzero problems

I have the BitZero V1 that came with my machine also the Bitsetter, I followed the instructions to the letter and after figuring out the Bitsetter issues I then went to test the BitZero. I set the bit less than 1/2 an inch from the probe attached the alligator clip and clicked on probe. Before even doing that I tested the probe green light is lit and when touched by the alligator clip it turns red, which indicates to me that the probe is working as it should. So ran the test, Z axis slowly descended to the probe and kept going like the probe wasn’t even there. Got the error message of probe failure and that was that. I thought that it could be me as it was my first time using it then tried it again to get the same results. Is there another test that I could run without the possibility of damaging either the bit or the machine? Could it be a bad sensor?
Thoughts? I’ve done a search on here and didn’t see what my problem is.

If you touch the ground lead to the BitZero what does it signal as under “Active Inputs” on the Settings pane?

Does the light turn red if you attach the clip to your end mill, and lift the BitZero up to touch the bottom of the end mill? Is the end mill completely metal? (the BitZero won’t work with a diamond tipped etcher for example, the tip doesn’t conduct electricity) And is the tip of the end mill clean?
I had a really nasty Z crash on probe because there was a small amount of blue tape residue on the tip of one of my end mills that prevented the probe from working. Now I have dedicated probe pins (1/4" and 1/8" metal dowels) instead of using end mills for probing.

I figured out the problem, it is the extra board to connect the bitsetter and the bit zero to the machine.
I tested the Zero with it only plugged in and it worked! Which by the was is slick! I then plugged in the Setter and Zero and first tested the setter and that worked. Then went to test the Zero and bubkis it showed the error. and for good measure I swapped the plugs zero in the setter slot, and zero in the setter slot. Now I’m not sure if that was the right thinking I was just experimenting but the setter errored and the zero worked. I wrote support but since it was after 3:30 I expect a reply from them tomorrow to confirm my thoughts.
Am I off base here? was the thinking correct in swapping the slots?
all I know is that they work correctly when connected separately and the zero errors when connected to the board. Could it be the wires? I’m thinking no as the setter works I lightly tugged on them and they seem connected.

It should be possible to plug either the BitSetter or BitZero into the PCB Riser Board at the Probe connector and the other directly to Reserved.
