Lately I haven’t been able to get an accurate zero setting using BitZero V2… Well, when using the BitZero today I realized the probe pin wasn’t going all the way edge to edge in the bitZero base when probing x and y, nor did it actually go all the way to the base when reading the z axis… then I realized that very fine iron filings had attached themselves to the pin, causing a premature conduction to the base. Either the pin or the filings are slightly magnetized, so getting them off was a bear! I recently used some steel wool to sand a project while watching the CNC do its thing, and I bet that’s when it happened! Going forward, I need to make sure anything I do that might create iron filings (using steel wool or sharpening my lawnmower blade) happens far away from the Shapeoko! I thought I would share this so others don’t have to go through this frustration!

Wound’t have thought about this. Great detective work.
And this is why I actually love conductive probing, it’s so dang sensitive!
This post is sure to save some future soul a whole lot of headache ![]()
