Boolean wrong? double v carve lines

ok I know I am missing a step on this project. How do I get it to v carve on the outside of the letters? I am sure boolean wrong are something. the v carve inside the letters makes the letter smaller and just looks odd. I also get a double v line when I do the rest of the bear. I know it’s something simple I missed or did. thanks ahead of time for anybody that tackles my lack of knowledge.

This is the selection for that toolpath:

If you want the letters to stand in relief, then you need to unambiguously select geometry which defines the area around these letterforms.

which would cut as:

So, what needs to be done is the area around the text needs to be extended by a dimension which will allow the letters to show clearly, and which will in turn allow the Teddy Bear to show as a clear design:

Offset Vectors to the outside

Apply

This must then be removed from each piece of geometry which it crosses in such a way as to create a clear b/w image — the easiest way to do this is to add that geometry to the selection by shift-clicking on it:

and using Trim Vectors to allow us to remove what is not wanted:

where necessary, zoom in:

until one arrives at:

OK

OK

Use Join Vectors to close things:

Yes

and remove what is not wanted:

It should now work to just V carve everything:

Except that one wants a V carving toolpath w/ pocket clearing:

which of course brings up matters of figure-ground reversal:

If one wants the lines which define the bear to be incised, this is easily done if we also incise the text:

The easiest way to have the text stand proud would be to have two different operations:

Attached as a v8 file.

wow, thanks for the play by play and other options, I hope I can learn and remember for future items. Thanks again.
