I will say that this Shapeoko 5 has been way better than I ever expected. doesn’t matter if I’m doing wood, acrylic, billet aluminum its been stellar.
right now I building a custom dresser so have a lot of pieces to cut out so using the whole 2’ x 4’ of the cnc, actually I cut the wood down to 24" by 47" so as to clear the bit setter,
on these drawers I’m only using 1/2 wood and really didn’t think much about it.
well it appears that even thou I gave it plenty of room for the bit I forgot about sweepy, oops
I think it hit and then didn’t go down all the way.
so I stopped it and figured I needed to reset the axis. well it then came up with an error, hmmm ok lets reinitailize it, nope moved about two seconds, and error, ok turn off everything and start from scratch, nope.
Dammit now I’m actually going to have to pay attention to how this thing works. ![]()
finally go and check the limit switches and what do you know. just what the error message was about , one of them isn’t working, but I kind of remember that I got spare parts when I bought it and what do you know a spare limit switch
swap it out an all good.
reload the machine the program and off we go right up until the spindle goes down and starts the cut. ( with out running ) that bit lasted less than a second. and I just bought the dam thing for this project,
so why didn’t the spindle turn on, its been one of those things that I never have to worry about it just works, I look under the table and the display is on but spindle doesn’t turn on,
oh yeah that little button on the front of the controller.
now it works great, other than I need to order another bit , guess ill buy two
