Brand new HDM bitsetter not working

So I bought my HDM a couple months ago, but I’ve barely had a chance to play with it. At first i thought it was user error, but now I’m beginning to think something is wrong with the machine.

I first noticed an issue trying to go through a sinple v carve tutorial. The bit would either not touch the material or plunge way too far. I eventually moved onto fusion only to have more z height issues, but again, I thought I must be doing something wrong.

Now I feel pretty confident my bitsetter is not functioning as it should. I absolutely cannot get consistent results after it probes a tool.

A few moments ago I turned the machine on, initialized it, manually clicked on the tool change button in Carbide Motion and inserted a tool. I zeroed it on a work piece, then hit the tool change button again, but I left the tool alone. Didnt even touch it. I just let it go through the tool probe procedure, and when i brought it back to zero Z height, it was offset by about 2mm. X and Y were fine.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any tips?

What happens if you zero and then just raise and lower Z a number of times without moving X or Y? This will check the problem is not on the Z axis itself. Support should be able to sort you out.

Please email into support - If you didn’t have a tool in on startup that wouldn’t fit with the workflow and could have caused the issue.

Support are more than happy to walk you through the process.
