I tried to change over my Carbide Connect to a new laptop. When I did, the machine moved to the far right front corner and pulled off my Z limiting switch. I tried to rewire directly and now when I initialize, the router goes down and does not trip the Z switch and will not progress.
Which machine?
Photo of the switch in question?

This search brings up the SKUs:
Note that if you have an SO3 and mechanical switches you’ll need the proximity switch upgrade.
I have a SO3 which is about 10 years old. I have upgraded to the newer Z drive.
I think I have the original limiting switches.
Then purchase an upgrade kit:
and install it.
instead of going up with the Z drive and contacting the limiting switch, it is going down.
Thank you…I figured it out myself.
Just for future reference to people reading this post the Z-Plus and the Original BeltZ/HDZ run in opposite directions. So on and SO3/4 if your Z goes the wrong way on italicization you have the wrong Z selected.
The initialization always starts with the Z going up to its limit switch. After that is successful then the gantry and Z head to the back right corner. The X and Y limit switches get activated and if all 3 switches are triggered then the initialization is complete and you are ready to use the Shapeoko.
Over the last year or so I have seen posts that suddenly people’s Shapeoko configuration changed without them changing it. So when in doubt run the setup and pick the proper components. For SO3 particularly the BitZero defaults to the v2 version. If you have a v1 BitZero you have to change that setting manually. I dont have CM open right now but I think it is in the Jog and Probe area to pick v1/v2. The v1 and v2 BitZero are different heights and will cause your probing to fail of the wrong BitZero is in the configuration.
To run setup you start CM and connect but do not initialize. At the bottom of the screen is the setup button. Hit that and run through the setup. You will answer some questions. If you do not know the answer stop and figure out what you have and do not guess.
Thank you for this writeup. Very informative. I have a S. Pro & just got a Bit Zero V2. To add the Bit Zero, do I need to run the complete setup process again, or is there a way to just configure a new Bit Zero?
I dont think running setup is necessary. The configuration defaults to v2.
If you want to know what your configuration is:
Open Carbide Create. Then go to Help and About. Open Data Directory. Open the Carbide Motion directory and then open the shapeoko.json file. You will see the BitZero version. I have a v1 so I think yours will have a “2”.
If you change anything in shapeoko.json you have to quit Carbide Motion and restart it. The shapeoko.json file is only read on the opening of CM. The shapeoko.json file is just a text file.
In the shapeoko.json file is the position set during setup of your BitSetter. The numbers are negative. When you initialize homing position is “Zero” position. All movements are negative relative to the home position. (machine internal coordinates).
