Can anyone explain whats happening? Adv V Carve

Im at a loss, this machine is so frustrating… I think the 3 is absolute trash and am contemplating upgrading to the 5, also wondering if i should have my head examined with how many issues ive had around the 3 and this ridiculous belt system. The screw system seems to be much better and makes me think i should’ve gotten a different brand to start, but oh well…

I’m also running into other issues regarding the rest machining system of being 1/16 to 1/8 off between bits, i’ll post pics of that later, but for now can someone explain whats happening with my Advanced V Carve tp tia

Looks like a mechanical problem on the X axis.

Check the pulley on the X axis motor. Two screws, both tight, one over the flat of the motor shaft.

While you are there, mark all the pulleys so you can easily see if they are loose on the shaft:

Looking at the picture, I’m inclined to believe that it’s either:

  • Something bound up and the machine skipped steps.
  • The machine hit something, and skipped steps. (Like Sweepy hitting a clamp)
  • The pulley on the X motor is loose
  • The X belt is not tight

I’d power up the machine and gently try to move the X right and left to see if there’s any wiggle. If not, power the machine down and unplug the X motor and slide the spindle/Z axis right and left to see if that’s smooth.

All the pockets seem in alignment with themselves and the vcarves also seem to align with themselves but the vcarves are not in alignment with the pockets. This might imply an inadvertent change in zero (looks like in the X axis) occurred when the v bit replaced the end mill.
