Can someone help me?!

I have a shapeoko XXL and have had it for 2 months. Ive done 3 project’s with no issues until I added the bit runner and the bit zero2. Now when I load a project the router will follow the paths but stays about 1/2” above my work piece without touching it🤔 i hope someone can point me in the right direction thanks

Hi Fred-

Welcome to the forum. Do you mean BitRunner or BitSetter?

If your end mill is cutting above your work piece, there are a few things to check.

First, how is your Zero set within the CAM software you are using, and does this match how you Zero the machine before running the job? For instance if in the CAM software you state the origin or Zero point, is at the bottom left of the material, and you zero the coordinates in CM on the top left of the stock. Then you will cut above the work piece.

If you are above 1/2", is your stock also 1/2" thick? If so then what I mentioned above would be applicable and you either need to change your origin point in CAM or change how you zero with CM.

However, another thing to consider is if you are using the “BitSetter”, and if you are changing your end mill without selecting the option in CM, about changing the tool.

So consider what I have said above, and please provide more information so we can help further.

If you haven’t, please write in to support@carbide3d.com and we’ll do our best to assist.

Usually this sort of thing is caused by a disconnect in how you are defining the origin in the file vs. how you are setting it relative to the stock, so to resolve it we’ll need pretty much everything:

  • .c2d file
  • generated G-Code
  • step-by-step notes on how you are securing your stock and setting zero relative to it and managing each tool change

a photo showing the overall setup can help a lot as well.
