Hey guys, I just reinstalled Carbide Motion on my windows machine (my regular computer is being repaired), at the same time that I set up my new bitsetter. I just ran my first job, a simple surfacing job with a 1" endmill, and it appears that for some reason I can no longer manually control the federate. It is showing a permanent velocity of 5000, and when I hit “Feedrate +10%” or “-10%” it does nothing to the actual speed. I am guessing there is something very simple that I am missing here. Any idea what it might be?
Wha version of carbide motion?
I’m still using 428 and no issues. Haven’t tried the beta 430 yet…
Notice over on the lower left that there is a percentage number that is changing.
if you are going super fast… the machine / motion do have a max set that you can’t exceed…
That’s the default Max speed.
Check your $110 and $111 settings
Hey guys, thanks for commenting back.
a) I am using version 4.0.428
b) Yeah I noticed that the percentage number is changing, but there is no visible difference in the actual speed.
c) As for checking my $110 and $111 settings, I’ll have to do a bit of digging to figure out what that means
Okay, weird. I just used a regular 201 endmill on a test run, and the feedrate adjust is working again. I am guessing I must have set up my 1 inch surfacing bit incorrectly in Aspire, I can’t figure out what else the issue might be. But the good news is, it works where I need it to.
btw 5000 is really fast (200ipm basically) and likely not what you wanted.
I know! It’s insanely fast! That’s why I was trying to reduce the feedrate. It’s scary when a 1" bit is ripping so quickly through Purple Heart!
Yup. Stupid and dangerous mistake – the feedrate settings in Aspire were set to inches per second instead of inches per minute when I was adding the new tool to the database. Feeling embarrassed I did not catch that. Sorry for wasting everyone’s time!
