I have recently installed carbides spindle on the shapeoko pro 5. Before when I was using the router with the machine I would just flip the power off to the machine when I was done using it but it seems I won’t be able to do that any longer because now when I do that the spindle weighs more and so falls to the machine bed. I am looking for advice on the correct way to shut the machine off now etc. Any help is appreciated.
A block of material under the spindle at the end of the day will stop that. Foam, Wood, Star Trek Force field

Holy crap i’ve never had mine do that. Although mine is basically new. Only had it a mouth. But its never droped an inch.
Mine falls a few inches whenever I power it off. It doesn’t hit the bed but my DC hose is probably providing enough resistance. I’m guessing once my 80mm spindle is here that will drop like a rock 
I have a light switch on the side of my table that controls the outlets the spindle controller and Shapeoko control box are plugged into.
I typically hit stop let it go to back right corner and then flight the switch to kill everything.

The next community challenge should be designing the most outlandish spindle cradle. I personally use a warped offcut from a 2x10.
Interesting. My 5 Pro with spindle is over a year old now and I get zero Z drift.
You are saying you have the VFD and it doesn’t drop after power is off?
I have started actually parking the machine before shutting off power and that has seemed to help for whatever reason. Only drops an inch or so since I’ve been doing that by hitting the red stop button in CM and then when the prompt comes up to park I press yes. Also the styrofoam packaging that the spindle comes in makes a great stop block just in case it were to drop to the machine bed
