I have been using Carbide create to produce my designs but I have an issue with the program crashing. It isn’t all the time and I haven’t found one thing that will make it crash reliably. It’s upsetting to get into a design an hour or two and have it crash. I know I can save more frequently and it’ll help, but I just want to know if anyone else experiences this as well. I don’t always remember to save often and sometimes I lose entire projects. I originally thought it was my outdated laptop from 2014, but I have purchased a new one and I still have issues with it. Is there a fix for this? I’m using build 474 at the moment but it happened on earlier versions as well. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have trouble with the 3D modeling on occasion, the more complicated the model, the higher chance I have at a crash. And sometimes I get this error…
… but it usually just GPF. I also have trouble (on rare occasions) moving from one Carbide Create design/file to another. If I am viewing file A, and ask to open file B (which closes file A). Carbide Create will sometimes crash when loading file B.
Only time I have “lost” design time is when I was working on an overly complicated 3D heightmap. I would have to open the file and just let it sit for awhile before I dared to touch the mouse.
That popup is due to the GPU not being able to allocate enough memory to show the 3D mesh that’s been calculated, both simulation and CC Pro heightmaps. In the last release we managed to track down where it happened and issue that popup. Catching the error and then reducing resolution eliminated all of the crashes due to the GPU that we were able to replicate. Before this change, the GPU running out of memory caused a hard crash.
We’re about 80% done with a very very large change to remove some of the parts of Create that forced a messier architecture than we wanted (The dreaded Qt QML). We expect this to make the program much more reliable and much easier to debug compared to the current version. We’re hoping to be able to share an early release of CC V5 in the next couple of weeks.
I guess I could expect to have some issues with graphically heavy 3D parts, but the most recent crash involved a carving of a poem and it was just a bunch of text.
For the most part the program is reliable, but it is upsetting to lose a project when I am near finished with it. If it makes a difference, I am using CC Pro.
I’m happy to hear there is a large update in the future and I hope it takes care of this issue. I can’t make the program do it on demand so I am not sure what is causing it, but it has happened on 2 computers.
This is related to your GPU hardware/drivers. A combination of the vendor of your GPU maker and the drivers you’re using. The error has nothing to do with the program.
Two different computers. Two different brands? I’m open to suggestions but I find it hard to believe that two completely different computers share the same issues because of hardware. I’m no computer expert though so if you could enlighten me I am all ears!
