I do a lot of 2 color projects where I paint the material first before carving. For example, using white PVC I paint it black and then carve out a design. I would like the toolpath simulation display to add Black on White and White on Black as a material choice. Often I’m only cutting to a depth of .2 mm to carve away the painted surface and reveal the underneath color. The existing simulations make it very difficult to see the expected result.
Most of the wood choices are horrible to even see what you are going to carve. I typically use the aluminum to see my design even though all my work is in wood.
Vectric handles this by allowing you to set a color for each toolpath. That’s pretty nice, but the one thing you can’t do is select a different material color for a toolpath.
So, if you want to show something like a black surface with maple underneath you really can’t. You end up having to set the material as black and then the carve toolpath to some color close to maple.
If CC gets updated to support the colors it would be nice to support materials as an allowable color.
This would also make it easier to show a realistic view on a laminated project.
Same here but with such shallow depths that I’m cutting, it’s difficult to see the design.
I front side engrave black acrylic and have the same issue. I use inkscape to render an attempt.
I have kind of settled on .010 wide lines ( I paint them ) for a basis of for a thin line.
Paint stays in the groove for easy cleaning.
I set inkscape stroke style thickness.
It’s ok, not great. The color contrast is hard to replicate without a lighting model
