Hopefully someone can help me here. Last night I went to run a new file on my shapeoko 5 pro and when I selected “Load New File” in CM only a single file was found in my designated toolpath folder. The file that was showing was the last file I ran on CM a few days ago. I went into my folders on the desktop and saw all my different toolpath files are in that particular folder including many I have ran on my machine very recently. This is on a laptop with windows 11. I tried restarting the computer but no dice. This was on CM 636, today I removed it from the system and downloaded the beta 639 but still to no avail. I even saved a file onto a USB which is loaded with many files I have ran through CM and it did not find a single one whether .NC or .c2d. I’m puzzled at this point and hoping someone has an idea I haven’t thought of at this point.
I would suspect a permissions issue. Navigate to the folder in File Explorer and select one of the files in question not recognized and right click and pick “Show More Options” and then pick “Properties” See if anything seems wrong. Then pick one of the files that works and do the same thing and see if you see any differences in properties or permissions.
This is under the “Security” tab
Thank you for the suggestion, I went through that and compared to find nothing out of the ordinary. This is just so strange as I have not updated or changed anything on my laptop in the few days since I last ran CM. I’m currently charging up my macbook to give it a try and see if a completely different laptop has the same issue
So I just loaded one of the files that could not be seen on my PC laptop(that I always use for CM) and put it on a USB and connected my MacBook to my machine. No problem at all seeing and loading the file. This is fine for the moment but if anyone has any clue why my 2 month old PC laptop suddenly decided to not view files in CM I’m all ears!
Post a screen grab of what you are seeing in the File | Open dialog from Carbide Motion on the non-working system?
No problem. First here it is working perfectly fine with the MacBook.
Now here it is with the PC that I have solely used with my 5 pro for a few months. The first image is trying to load new file with CM and second image of opening the file folder on its own.
Try editing out the filename?
Find a file you want to open, shift right-click on it, copy the path, then paste that full path into the dialog box?
I can give that a try tomorrow. You’re saying to do that from my file folder? I will attempt it but that still doesn’t solve my issue. Until 2 days ago when I would click load new file the folder would appear with all my tool path files just as they appear in that last photo. Suddenly as of Friday I cannot view more than that one single tool path file on my computer no matter the folder or usb through CM
Maybe try typing “*.*” into the file name and see if all the files come up. Or change the filter in the dialog to “All Files”
Each of those have already been attempted unfortunately
What is the significance of:
0? finishing.nc
in the filename field? Why is it there?
That’s just the one file that’s being shown in the folder. I can clear that out and nothing changes.
This PC is 3 months old and has only ever been used for this with zero issue so I can’t figure out what changed to where I can’t see files through CM. Hooking up my work macbook last night there were no issues and I could see all the files that I saved from my PC to a USB and put on the macbook
In the mac picture it’s showing .c2d files. In the PC picture it’s showing .nc files???
Is “Offline > Porter - Personal > Desktop > my cnc files > Final Toolpaths” the same folder as
“Desktop > my cnc files > Final Toolpaths” ???
Are you navigating to the folders the same way in both file manager and CC?
To confirm, this is Windows 11.
What is the complete filepath of a file you would like to load? Permissions for that folder?
What happens if you copy-paste that path into the file dialog?
The highlighted file on the Mac is a .nc and there are multiple when scrolling that file. I ran that highlighted .nc file last night with the Mac.
Also, on the Mac the folder you are seeing with both all the c2d and the .nc is a USB. If I open that same USB drive with the PC through CM it does not see any of those files
William, I’m at work currently but will see what happens when I try to copy and paste later on the PC. Yes, windows 11
Tried copy and paste this afternoon and that would work. Clicking load new file was still a no go and haven’t figured out why or changed anything.
I just returned out to my shop 3 hours later, fired everything up and was planning to copy and paste to run a job. I clicked load new file and everything appears once again like normal. No idea what was going on, 3 hours ago it couldn’t find a single file still and not one setting has been changed. I’m just happy that I can easily access my files once again
Do not discount Microsoft doing updates in the background. I am running Win 11 and have not had any problems like yours but MS sneakily does updates. MS has a history of making two steps forward in updates only to take you back 3 or more steps. MS is one of the most defective operating systems in the history of the world and yet is the most used desktop software in the world. Go figure?
I have used just about every OS there is and installed thousands of systems with Solaris, Linux, Next, Windows, Mac OS and so on and so on. So if I could run Linux I would but other than specific applications and web browsing that is all you can do with Linux. No one makes consumer applications so it is a good server OS but not so much for consumers.
That’s certainly possible and I’ve never been a fan of windows. The only reason I even got a PC was due to so many CAD softwares being windows only and did not want to limit my options
I have now come across the issue that yesterday when I went to exit CM that it lagged and gave a “not responding” and crashed. Tonight I ran a job just fine but about an hour or so later when to pop CM back up as I had it minimized and it would not respond and crashed. If I double click on it from my desktop it will lag and eventually open but once again not be responsive. I have tried restarting the computer and so forth. While CM is freezing I tried CC, carveco, fusion 360, and bambulab all successfully and responsive. I’m not sure why but for whatever reason the continuous issue for me the past week has been CM unfortunately.
Have you tried the new beta?
