Pretty much what the title says. CC intermittently crashes on me when I save a file. The file will be unusable / “empty” when I reload it after restart. Sometimes a .journal file is left behind.
I keep my designs in source control so my losses aren’t catastrophic, but still not insignificant. I just lost an hour’s worth of work again and by the time I recreate the lost work from my last backup, it will be too late to run the CNC.
I hate picking on other people’s software design but – when saving, writing to a temp file and moving into position after the save was successful should be standard practice exactly to avoid data corruption on a crash while saving. Is this something that could be implemented?
The crash-on-save happens only sporadically and randomly, I have not been able to establish any pattern or reproduce reliably. The bigger, compounding problem was the fact that the file gets corrupted.
HOWEVER, in the meantime I figured out that the file doesn’t actually get corrupted. It’s the presence of the “.journal“ file that seems to confuse CC. If I delete the journal file, then I am able to reopen the file again and restart work from the last save.
Just wanted to post this in case someone else is experiencing this and ends up reading this thread.
So I’m OK for now, and if I see a way to reliably reproduce the crash-on-save, I will post it.
