I am trying to understand why there is a difference between the 3D model rendering and the toolpath simulation. I am planning to run it on a test piece before I do the actual carve in maple.
The toolpath simulation shows you how the design will cut out w/ the tool settings you have selected and reflects that — to get a better appearance, use additional 3D Finishing toolpaths w/ ever smaller tools (don’t skip sizes).
if you want a 2nd opinion, the tool “camotics” (open source so free) can also simulate gcode tool paths
the 3D simulation is agnostic of the actual tools used, so “perfect”. But you can imagine if you use, say, a 1/4" flat endmill to carve, you won’t get all the details perfectly so the toolpath simulation shows usually more the actual… BUT there is a limited accuracy to such simulation
After review of the file you sent, I found out what I was doing wrong… I was selecting both the outer perimeter shape and the text. Now that I have just the outer perimeter selected it looks good. Thanks for all of the support.
