Check first project settings

Hi,
I’m about to make the first cuts with my 5.1 machine and wonder if someone could check the screen shots for any pointers.
This is just a simple tray with plate and cup recesses from a piece of 15mm poplar plywood.
The time showing to complete the job seems high at 40+ minutes - does this look correct?
I’ve chosen ‘hardwood’ as the material and the #201 1/4 endmill.

Thanks for any help

Janice

Looks great!

The one thing which you don’t show above is Depth per Pass — so long as that is reasonable, you should be good to go.

@Jet

Is there a reason your retract height (30mm) is 2x what the thickness of material is? That is extending your total cut time per tool path.

Stick your finger in the light socket ! Send it.

EDIT: You could remove the bit and run it “Dry” to be more comfortable.

@Jet One reason your cut is taking so long is likely because you’re using the default feeds and speeds for that bit. The ones from CC are very, very conservative and I’ve pushed mine quite a bit faster with great results. However, if this is your first job, leave it default and take it slow. The more you do it the more you’ll get comfortable with things and be able to push everything a bit more.

Only suggestion I would make is that if you choose softwood for the material the bit speeds will default to a higher level therefore reducing the run time. Totally a personal preference though.

Thanks @WillAdams.
I have only set the overall depth. How do I change this so the depth is achieved in multiple passes?

Thanks @Redlander I will reduce this to 20mm.

Thanks @jtclose  It really feels like I am!

Depth per Pass is a tool setting, and if unchanged should be a sensible default.

@Jet … So the retract height is the distance above your Z zero setting. I typically set mine to 3mm which is enough to clear the material.

Yeah…just pull the trigger and go. Always scary on that first run. Start slow and don’t worry about it. You will get the feel after you do several projects. You can always increase the speed on the screen if you feel like the bit can handle it.

Aha!
Thank you @Jmcwoodworking. I will leave these at the defaults.

Better get to it then:-)
