Clean up pass?😬🤕

Is it terrible to consider wanting to try a full depth, edge “clean up” pass on 1-3/4” thick walnut, if the step over is 1/32” or 1/64”(.03125 or .015625) with an extended reach end mill that has a 1/4” shank and a 2” cut capacity?:grimacing:
If any of you think it’s totally doable, is it totally doable with a climb and/or a conventional cut?

TIA. Only been playing for a week now, and I’ve found my new best friend.

I tried it and don’t recommend it, but I have an old S3; newer machines might be less prone to chatter.

I did something similar in cherry, and got lots of chatter I cleaned up. Granted I’m pretty sure my Z gantry Vwheels were not fully tightened, but who knows. I need a 5.1 Pro. :upside_down_face:

Make sure the stock is held down firmly. I did a similar thing and the box came loose on the last corner and the bit took a big chunk out of it.

Thanks for the insight. I imagine the bit wanting to deflect, which wouldn’t be good… I will just make multiple passes. Safer bet.
Thanks!

At that depth with a 1/4" tool, I would probably go with 0.005" and make 2 climb cut finish passes.

If I’m going to take that DOC finishing pass it will 0.005” finish pass in 2 passes with a compression bit.
