Hi there
I had my first machine disconnect in the middle of a project today. It was a simple, one-tool, one path project. It ran about 3 minutes and then I noticed that the spindle was stationary. The computer showed that the computer was not connected to the machine.
I was able to shut everything off, restart the program and run it again, this time with no issues.
so… 2 questions…
Are there common situations which cause the machine to disconnect?
is there a way to get the restarted program to start where the machine crashed or do you have to let it “trace air” over the initial successful cut until it has retraced it’s initial steps?
Thanks for any suggestions
Bill
For the disconnect see: https://wiki.shapeoko.com/index.php/Electronics#Electrical_Noise

Usually disconnect is static. My original controller had a loose usb connection so I got an adhesive wire tie holder and placed it in line with the controller usb port to take any strain off the cable. Won’t hurt but most likely what Will suggests.
Thanks Will
I will ground everything as recommended. I have noticed static from my dust collection unit, however this was my first disconnect. As far as the cut continuation, I read the post and I am not up to speed reading the G-code yet. (haha). I looked at some code, and although it makes sense, it is still difficult for me to comprehend it.
I’ll get there, just gonna take a while.
Thanks
Bill
