Completed my first sign!

So, I’ve wanted a machine for some time, and finally bought one in November. I had never touched a cnc before. With the tutorials and this forum, I did my first sign this weekend. I am absolutly sold on the Carbide/Shapeoko!

That is a GREAT job! Carve looks excellent and I like the contrasting color

Well done, Brent. Great looking sign.

That sign is sick!
To get that clean and consistent contrast, did you stain the entire thing to finish it and just surface it as a final step?

I used a brush and tried to stay in the valleys, then wiped up almost immediately. Then just hit the top with a DA sander.

Nice!!! Excellent contrast & detail. I love the position of the knots :laughing:

It was some old cedar I had laying around. Cut a couple pieces, planed and glued up. The knots were just random. :man_shrugging:

Can you share your file? I also want to make a sign, and having yours an example would help get me started.

Which Tutorial have you used for this ?

YvesChapdelaine, I used the tutorials about tracing an image, editing vectors and using v carve function.
When i bought this machine 4 monts ago I had never done any kind of cnc work. I watched a lot of the vidros before I bought the machine. That was one of the selling points for me, that I could start to learn about the machine and software before buying.

Thanks. So just three tool paths. I’ll need to spend some time learning how to do what you just did.

Can you tell me what steps/process you used to darken the background and leave the raised design untouched?

Cool sign, especially the contrast.
Just curious on the CNC machine in the photo. Is that a Shapeoko or another brand?

@Frank246 I used a brush and stained in the recessed areas. Then used a DA sander and hit the raised areas to remove any stain that got on it.

@NYC_Woodworker_17 that’s not my machine, it’s a slab flattener.
