New to CNC routing. I have an old computer with windows vista. Is this computer usable to run carbide motion??
Most likely, yes.
I used to use an old 10+year old laptop to run Carbide Motion. I believe I had upgraded the OS to Win10, which ran fine on that ancient hardware. Never had a problem running CM on it.

You can try and download it, since it is free 
but the specs say Win 10. Vista is pretty old and may not meet all the requirements.
I don’t think there is a Linux build yet, but there is a RaspberryPi build:
I like using the pi as a dedicated gcode sender device. No random updates. USB ports are stable. It just does it’s thing. I’ve had too many problems with port disconnects, machines sleeping while running a job, updates suddenly deciding to install and sucking all the system resources… blah. I’d save the headache of a very old computer and grab a thin client for $250 that you can run headless with Windows 10/11 or a Rpi.
