I’m trying to do a cutout. Previously when I had done cutouts, I had a field that said “use stock bottom.” I’ve either changed a setting somewhere or I’m forgetting or not seeing or understanding something, but I don’t have that anymore. (Though weirdly it is on contour… maybe I was using contour previously for cutouts? Is that the way?)
Also, on cutout, there is “breakthrough,” which I had thought meant stock bottom. So I put the thickness in there… but the simulation shows that the cutout is going to down twice as far as that. I’m so confused.
Before the Cutout toolpath existed folks would use a Contour toolpath to cut out a part.
Breakthrough at 0 exactly equals Stock Thickness. Adding Stock Thickness to that as depth results in cutting twice as deep. A negative value for Breakthrough will leave that dimension as an uncut “onion skin”.
It is the tool paths. May be pro but not sure. I have pro so what I see is what I get. You have to be above a certain level for the cutout tool path. The current level is CC 870.
The cutout path cuts a wider path than the tool to keep you from clogging up the tool when doing a contour cut. So a cutout path takes longer than a contour cut but is safer for not getting a tool broken off and recutting chips.
Since this came out I used it 3 times. Each time it cut below the stock and into my spoilboard. I have not used it in the 870 so not sure of behavior. That may have been fixed. Suggest you do a test before using it and set up as you like.
