Connectivity Issue

When I am doing anything in Carbide Motion, I might get an error saying that the cutter can’t be found. I am using the cable sent with the machine and tried using some usb cables my grandson uses for gaming (insists on buying the best he can find) but the problem, though random, persists. The only solution is to unplug the cable from the controller and re-plug it. (does not work to unplug from the computer). I have always bit the bullet and even started re-plugging the cable every time I start a a job.

All was well, though aggravating, until this morning. Today it lost the connection in the middle of a small job. I’ve tried contact cleaner, inspected both connections as best I can and so far that has not helped. I am convinced that the problem somehow is in the controller side of the cable connector.

Do you have any idea how I can get around this. Lately, I have been doing multi hour cuts on expensive material, and have been lucky to hot have it happen in the middle of those jobs. This happening this morning was kind of a wakeup call (this was a small job).

Any response will be appreciated.

Please let us know about this at support@carbide3d.com — there’s a small test and if it’s EMI/static we have a 10-step plan which works for most folks.

You did not say what machine you have but my original SO3 controller had a flaky usb port. So I took an adhesive wire tie holder and stuck it about 4 inches from the controller. Then secured the usb cable to its own weight did not make it sag. Eventually I replaced the board for the BitRunner to get the extra port.

You can get these at any big box hardware store in the electrical section. They are cheap and are good for a lot of things.

Not sure if this pertains to your particular situation, but i had a similiar connection issue. Tried the cable, no, tried all connections and dust collection plus everything else, even changed the brushes on my router. I eventually determined that the router itself a Makita 0701. It had some strange static interfence thing going on. It would do it at start up, sometimes an hour into a job. Hope this helps.
