Contour w/ has EmptyToolPath - Advanced VCarve works w/ same tool and depth

I have a Text that will not generated a tool path for a Contour with a Vee 60 tool.
The same tool and depth works with Advanced Vcarve.

I think they make the same profile ( without the AV pocket ) when cut.

Why ?

Thanks

I think that since you have set the offset to ‘inside’, there isn’t enough room to fit the entire V Bit. Since it’s NOT a V Carve, it’s only looking at the full width of the bit. It’s basically like trying to do the same cut with a 0.500" endmill - there isn’t enough room for it.

Contours with V Bits are don’t really make sense for ‘Inside’ or ‘Outside’, only ‘No Offset’. If you have a V Bit and an offset, your best bet is to generate an offset curve, then V Carve the gap between them.

I get the same result if I set the depth to 0.005, so the tool would not go across the available width.
Hmmm…

The problem is some geometry is open (indicated by being magenta):

That geometry can only be cut with a contour toolpath.

Everything else will work with V carving (or Advanced V carving)

The Electrc text I did a “manual” pocket with an offset to create a raised panel look for the Pocket area.

I was trying the same concept on the “Beaudoin” text. I had just the “B” selected as a test.
That is TrueType closed geometry

The Lightbulb does have open geometry, so that is not done as yet.

It doesn’t matter how deep it is - Contour cuts only look at the full width of the bit.

Your inside contour is using a 0.500" wide bit, and that doesn’t fit.|

If you really want to do this with a V bit, then calculate how wide the bit would be at the depth you are cutting, then create a new tool in the tool database and say that the tool is that wide.

I can do that. Thanks !
