Hello and thanks for reading. So I have this dxf file that I exported from Illustrator CS4and imported into Carbide Create. I import the file and then group all of the elements so I can center the elements on the work area. As soon as I group them I get the Mac color wheel of death. I’ve walked away for 15+ minutes and it was still spinning it’s evil spell. Thank you for any help.
Upload the file or send it in to support@carbide3d.com
Does the behaviour change if you write out an SVG (remember to uncheck the “Responsive” checkbox)?
Will, I sent the file to support because it was too large to add here(crazy). I’ll export the SVG again to ensure the Responsive checkbox is unchecked.
These are the options Illustrator CS4 gives me while saving as an SVG. I didn’t see a “Responsive checkbox” however. Yes, the SVG crashes/becomes unresponsive after grouping the elements.
I believe you need to use “Save for Web”

Saw your e-mail in support and assigned it to myself and asked you to send in the source .dxf and .svg files as exported from Adobe Illustrator — if you find the above dialog and re-export, please send that in as well.
Hello again Will and thank you for looking onto this for me. I sent the files you requested to support(replying to your email). I tried the Save for Web and Devices option and it still crashed when grouping the elements. There are 250 Years (separate elements) as well as the other elements so maybe there are too many elements?
No, Carbide Create has a quite high threshold for number of objects — I’m sure it’s some Adobe Illustrator weirdness (the original AI for folks to complain about) — I’ll look into it this evening and we’ll see what we can find out.
Thank you Will and I appreciate it. This is my normal workflow. I create everything using Illustrator (sometimes with Photoshop help) and then export DXF’s for Carbide Create. I’ve never had any issue with the machine crashing or becoming unresponsive after grouping. I’m curious to see if I need to change my workflow. I hope not so fingers crossed! Thank you again sir.
As noted on support, I was able to simplify this down to 4,218 elements:
which I was able to organize on appropriate layers:
and then set up suitable toolpaths:
Thank you for your help Will! I appreciate it sir.
Update- we added a fix for this in the next release.
