Current gcode senders?

You guys were so helpful in the double-sided tape thread, I thought I’d ask for a refresher on what you guys are using to send g-code.

The reason I’m looking at this again is, I just cut a couple of parts for a project. First one cut perfectly. I jogged the carriage out of the way to remove the workpiece and replaced it with new/uncut material. Then I pressed the “play” button and the machine started cutting without returning to the zero positions.

I’m using Universal G-code Sender. I think I’ve come to the conclusion that this app and I just don’t get along.

I know there are a bunch of others out there besides Carbide’s own, what do you guys use, and why?

I use CNCjs because it runs on Raspberry Pi and I don’t need to drag my laptop out in the shop. I also love the macro capability.

CNCjs, for the macros and the ability to add UI buttons to launch them, the 3D preview, the RPM override (in addition to feedrate override). If only it had native smooth jogging like CM has, and the GRBL params backup/restore function from UGS…

UGS - runs on a pi, windows, mac. Works good for me most of the time. Macro capability not as fancy as CNCjs, recently seeing some progress on autoleveling, but not quite there yet.

I am just switching over to CNCjs. And while It’s been a little bit of a learning curve for me - I am not nearly as smart as the average person here. Primary motivation was to involve an Rpi, which I’ve also never used and wanted to, but to me, having the console always viewable was the greatest learning asset. I installed the ready made v1 engineering image, easy, but I never tried to use it. For some reason, I also wanted to try installing from GitHub instructions too. The latter caused me some grief. I am dumb, and probably pretty burnt out from a life of hard living, psychedelics, and crazy women. Despite my shortcomings, I got it working a treat. I do my Fusion work in my office, then upload it to the sender via browser interface. Take a walk to my shop, and it’s ready to roll. Neil on here is a swell fellow, and his work is much appreciated.

Cncjs over here for macros, and ease of use, simple UI design
