Cuts air for the first couple of passes

Hello

I got something weird going on. My SP5 cuts air for the first couple of passes. I use the bitzero and bit setter and I only change bits in the program or by the button. They all seem to set fine. I checked the program and my stock, and the stock thickness is correct. The table has been trued and it’s baltic birch plywood so it’s flat (within less than .5mm by my trammel).

What am I missing?

K

Usually this is caused by a mismatch between job setup:

and how origin is set relative to the stock:

Well, I’ll rewatch and retry this but it’s a new issue. So we’ll see…

No joy. Still air cuts. However, I just realized that the orginial image was set for 12.7mm, not 12 mm which is the current stock thickness. I changed the stock size in design and it says it is running at 12.0 mm in the summary page. Could the original size be hidden somewhere in the program?

No.

If the stock size is set accurately, and the origin is set relative to the stock to match job setup, then things should work as expected.

Usually Top (origin set relative to the stock at the top)/Bottom (origin set as the surface of the baseplate in Job Setup) being mis-matched is the cause of this.

If you still have trouble, please upload the .c2d file and let us know step-by-step how you are securing your stock and setting zero relative to it and managing all tool changes, and send a photo showing the stock in place and the machine at the zero position relative to it (or a specified offset from that position) and screengrabs showing what Carbide Motion shows for Position and Machine Position (click on either to toggle to the other).

We’d need to see your C2D file.
