So i just got my replacement wiring harness in and got everything plugged and turned it on. I am thinking i am ready to go but the spindle does not have a collet in it for the bit. is this something that i need to purchase separate or is it supposed to come with machine/spindle? i have looked thru all my boxes and bags i cant find it. i have had a rough go at getting this setup. Is this a normal from shapeoko 1st was waiting on my spindle then i found a bad wire in my wiring harness now no collet for my spindle.Starting to get a little frustrated!
Yes, there should be collets — if they were not included, let us know at support and we’ll get them to you as soon as is possible.
Note if you have a VFD spindle or ER-11 router that there’s only one ER-11 nut and some folks buy a second nut.
i have the VFD spindle and it came with the nutattached but no collet, I guess i will send another email to support
I found them!! sorry for the confusion They was in the styrofaom that the spindle came in… I should have cleaned my glasses before i started b!#@#ing on the forums.

Here on the forum some new VFD uers cannot get their bits to tighten up in the collet. You need to click the collet (ER11) inside the nut. It does not work like the Makita/C3D router where the collet nut and collet are separate. So make sure you press the collet down into the nut and it should capture it. As @WillAdams suggested you should buy some spares. The ER11 collet comes in various sizes. So if you have 1/8" shank bits you need a 1/8" collet. You can buy both SAE and Metric collets. Just remember metric sizes are close but not the same as SAE collets. A bit can slip if you put an SAE bit in to a Metric bit. You can get cheap collets from a lot of sources but recommend you buy good quality ones that are much more precise with less runout then cheaply made ones.
Also, when I first used my collet the bit slipped because the collet had oil on it, I think. They probably coat them in oil after manufacturing so they don’t rust. Just FYI.
