hello, i wonder if someone could have a look at this please.
I am trying to drill a series of holes too insert some crochet tools in a display board, they go up in sizes and i am trying to drill an accurate hole for each one.
I have a 1/4" end mill and the smallest is around 5mm and the largest around 10mm.
I have set the circle as half the width for the radius and used a pocket hole toolpath but it keeps on coming out to wide, am i going wrong with the offset?
Hello Will.
I am only intending to cut these as a hole so the tools can stand up in them, i reckon around 8mm deep into 18mm timber would be ok.
The cutter i am using is the 1/8" one which has a diameter of 4.7mm ish.
The first hole i am trying to cut is around 5mm, so a bit bigger i thought would be ok with the 1/8" end mill.
I do another one for some items we make where the hole needs to be 12mm, i set this as a pocket with a raduis of 6mm, again to a depth of 8mm and it does this fine so i just transfered the diameter of the hole for this job in the same way
I would use a hole milling strategy.
Set the depth of cut on the tool to something large, I used 1"
Set the plunge feedrate the same as the cut feedrate
Use a contour, Inside, Climb cut toolpath, with ramping at about 3°
For the holes that are larger than 2x the tool, add an additional pilot hole in the center & cut those first.
The path will spiral / helical into the hole & make a flat pass at the bottom.
